Bayer CropScience implemented the FROGSS robotic spraying system at its La Dargoire site to increase treatment capacity and limit biologist contact with treated plants. The project integrated Wonderware InTouch HMI, Historian, and ActiveFactory with conveyors, robotic arms, and barcode systems to automate spraying, drying, classification, and washing sequences. The open architecture enabled rapid configuration changes while maintaining traceability across all process steps and interfacing with the corporate BCS management system.

Key takeaways

Automated greenhouse spraying, drying, and plant classification reduced manual handling and increased throughput

Wonderware InTouch HMI and Historian delivered real-time visualization, alarm management, and full traceability

Modular architecture allowed configuration changes during the 18-month rollout without disrupting existing functions

User-level access controls and ergonomic screen design accelerated operator adoption

Integration with corporate BCS system ensured consistent data exchange and manufacturing program management
